Archive//X is committed to providing an accessible research platform for all users. We design for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and actively maintain accessibility as a core product quality standard, not an afterthought.
Visual Accessibility
- High contrast dark interface with minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text
- Gold and white accent colors maintain contrast against dark surfaces
- Color is not used as the only means of conveying information — all status indicators include text labels
- Confidence badges include both color and icon indicators
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements are keyboard-accessible
- Focus indicators are visible throughout the interface
- Logical tab order follows visual hierarchy
- Skip navigation links available on main pages
Screen Reader Support
- Semantic HTML structure throughout
- Meaningful alt text on all informational images
- ARIA labels on icon-only buttons and controls
- Live regions for dynamic content updates
Responsive Design
- Fully functional on mobile, tablet, and desktop viewports
- No information is lost on smaller screens — layout adapts, content does not
- Touch targets meet minimum 44x44px requirement
- Pinch-to-zoom not disabled on mobile
Known Limitations

The Intelligence Map requires mouse interaction for full functionality. Keyboard-only access to individual map markers is limited. An accessible list alternative is available in the evidence drawer.

The Graph Explorer's SVG visualization is not fully screen reader accessible. A text-based node list is available as an alternative.

Some historical source facsimile images do not have full alt text descriptions — this is an ongoing improvement.
